Insulin potency is measured in units, and the concentration of a given insulin product is expressed as units per milliliter. Various preparations sold in the United States (U.S.) at the time of this publication are available in U-100 (100 units/mL), U-200 (200 units/mL), U-300 (300 units/mL), and U-500 (500 units/mL) c oncentrations. U-500 regular insulin is generally reserved for people with T2D who have significant insulin resistance and take large daily doses of insulin, as discussed in the section U-500 Regular Insulin. Table 1 summarizes key pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of insulin products currently available in the U.S. The following sections discuss individual insulin products, as grouped by their general action profiles. A visual representation of the time-action profiles of currently available insulin products is provided in Figure 3.
