Belinda P. Childs, MN, APRN, BC-ADM, CDE, is a diabetes nurse specialist and the executive director of Great Plains Diabetes in Wichita, KS. Great Plains Diabetes is a nurse-driven nonprofit clinic that provides diabetes care and education for patients of all ages. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Wichita State University (WSU). She was privileged to be mentored by and to work with Drs. Richard and Diana Guthrie for more than 35 years. Richard Guthrie, MD, continues to serve as her collaborating physician at Great Plains Diabetes. She has authored several book chapters and journal articles and has done numerous presentations. She is a past editor of Diabetes Spectrum (2001–2005), a publication of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and serves on the editorial board of Diabetes Forecast. She is an adjunct faculty member and instructor in the Department of Nursing at WSU and serves on the International Hypoglycemia Study Group. She was the ADA’s 1996–1997 president of Health Care and Education and was named the ADA’s 2010 Outstanding Diabetes Educator.

Marjorie Cypress, PhD, ANP-BC, CDE, is an adult nurse practitioner specializing in diabetes care in Albuquerque, NM. She received her master’s degree in nursing from SUNY–Stony Brook and doctorate in nursing from the University of New Mexico. She has worked in diabetes management and education of patients and health-care professionals for more than 30 years. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters and given numerous presentations throughout the U.S. She was named the ADA’s 2004 Outstanding Diabetes Educator and was the ADA’s 2014 president of Health Care and Education. She continues to serve on ADA and American Association of Diabetes Educators national committees. She also serves on the board of directors of the New Mexico Diabetes Advisory Council. Although retired from clinical care, she continues to do consulting and volunteer work for the ADA and diabetes community through speaking, writing, and advocacy activities.

Geralyn R. Spollett, MSN, ANP-BC, CDE, is an adult nurse practitioner and associate director at the Yale Diabetes Center in New Haven, CT, an ambulatory clinic staffed and managed by Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine. Employed at Yale University for more than 25 years, she was an associate professor in the Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Program and the Diabetes Care Concentration at the Yale School of Nursing for 10 years. She currently works with Silvio Inzucchi, MD. Her work in diabetes has included multiple publications and presentations about clinical care and self-management diabetes education. She was an associate editor for Diabetes Spectrum and Practical Diabetology. She was named the ADA’s 2006 Outstanding Diabetes Educator and was the ADA’s 2010–2012 president of Health Care and Education.
