We thank Wijmenga and Romanos (1) for their response to our two–single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) test for HLA-DR3/4-DQ8 (2). We agree that the DR3-DQ2 haplotype is an important genetic risk factor for both type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. Their use of SNP rs2187668 as a proxy of SNP rs2040410 to identify DR3-DQ2 should supplement our work because it can be useful for HLA typing using the TaqMan technique. We hope this cost- and time-efficient method will continue to benefit screening in large high-risk cohorts.
