Kidney tissue from the majority of patients dying with diabetes mellitus was found totake up insulin labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate. Kidney tissue from patients with renal disease in the absence of diabetes occasionally showed a similar uptake. No insulin uptake was observed in the kidneys of nondiabetic patients dying of causes other than renal disease. These findings were compared with those of a study reported elsewhere.
