Multi-channel determination of serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) frequently reveals an elevation in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. This elevation may represent acetoacetate in the serum and thus be an artifact. It is therefore necessary to include the determination of a serum blank or to utilize a different technic to measure the SGOT in patients with ketonemia.
