An impure peptide preparation from human urine has been shown to have similar biological effects in vitro and in vivo to synthetic peptides containing the human growth hormone sequence Leu-Ser-Arg- Leu-Phe-Asp- Asn-Ala (residues 6–13). The urinary preparation potentiates the action of insulin in the isolated rat diaphragm and in rabbits and rats, but the latter animals are far more sensitive to its action. Species specificity is possibly a significant factor in determining dosage in future studies.
