Introduction

These proceedings are the result of a workshop on pancreas transplantation sponsored by the Kroc Foundation and held January 11–14, 1982, in Santa Ynez, California. The workshop focused principally on current strategies for dealing with rejection of transplanted fetal pancreases, or of transplanted islets or islet cells. Working sessions were structured to provide ample opportunity for open and wide-ranging discussions of the topics under consideration. Where appropriate and illuminating, portions of these discussions are presented following individual papers.
