Visual Abstract
Despite newer diabetes medications and technology, glycemic control is shown to be inadequate. Furthermore, differences in glycemic control among different racial groups has been reported. To investigate Therapeutic Inertia in terms of HbA1c trend and potential differences among different racial groups, HbA1c results of four racial groups, obtained over an 18-month period, were examined. 430 records of patients seen in a community clinic from January 2017 through June 2019 were reviewed (Table 1). Our study shows that half of the people whose HbA1c is above 7% stay above target in the second test and more at the final test. More Burmese and Hispanic individuals with HbA1c above 7% stay above target in both second and final test however that differences diminish at higher HbA1c level (Table 2).
