Visual Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the incidence and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with diabetes, hospitalized with foot infections.
Methods: One hundred-fifty patients with moderate to severe foot infection as defined by the Infectious Diseases Society of America were prospectively enrolled. Fifty-three developed AKI within the 16 week trial and 89 did not. Eight were excluded due to dialysis at baseline. AKI was defined by the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines. Descriptive statistics were performed.
Conclusion: Patients with AKI had significantly higher glycated hemoglobin (p=0.001), WBC count (p=0.049), and CRP (p=0.02) at baseline.
