This collection includes articles presented at the American Diabetes Association’s 83rd Scientific Sessions on 23 June 2023 as part of Diabetes Care Symposium, “Social Determinants of Health: Impact on Diabetes Development and Care.” Together, these articles synthesize and discuss available evidence relating social, political, and commercial determinants of health and the risk and outcomes of type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Chemistry have jointly released an updated consensus statement regarding laboratory analysis in the diagnosis and management of diabetes. This new guidance is aimed at streamlining the diagnostic process, standardizing laboratory procedures, and ensuring patients receive the most comprehensive and accurate treatment and care.
