The State of Diabetes event, held annually by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), is in swing in cities across the country. It brings together influential figures from diverse sectors, including employers, industry leaders, health care professionals, and community experts to address the current landscape of diabetes. The 2025 Clinical Update Conference will be held at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate from 31 January to 2 February. This conference is designed for health care professionals who provide clinical care and education for pi people with diabetes. The 85th annual American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions will be held in Chicago, Illinois, 20–23 June 2025, at the McCormick Place Convention Center. Abstract submission is now open. The committee encourages submissions that are innovative, challenge current treatment paradigms, and represent the latest advances in basic, clinical, and translational science. A new Diabetes Spectrum From Research to Practice section reviews the rapidly changing landscape of obesity medicine, with a focus on the expanding armamentarium of pharmacotherapies. Articles in this timely collection review current treatment guidelines, first-generation medications that still play an important role, game-changing second-generation drugs from the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist class, and the use of obesity drugs in the pediatric population. The final article, by renowned obesity expert and collection guest editor W. Timothy Garvey, describes exciting new obesity medications now in the development pipeline.
