Special Podcast Series: Diagnosis and Treatment of Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is among the most common complications of diabetes, eventually affecting more than one-third of individuals with longstanding type 1 diabetes and more than half of those with type 2 diabetes. Neuropathic pain, which can be severe, affects nearly one-third of all individuals with DPN and can lead to diminished quality of life, higher health care costs, and reduced ability to work and function in daily life. Thus, it is imperative to identify the most effective measures to prevent and treat DPN and its painful symptoms.

In this special three-episode series made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from Nevro, Inc., Diabetes Core Update will explore the complicated relationship between diabetes and peripheral neuropathy. In each episode, Dr. Neil Skolnik of Abington Memorial Hospital and the Temple University School of Medicine will discuss several aspects related to the diagnosis and treatment of DPN. In each episode of this three-part series, Dr. Skolnik will interview a special guest, most notably Rodica Pop-Busui, MD, PhD, of the University of Michigan. Dr. Busui is the editor and lead author of ADA’s January 2022 clinical compendium on the diagnosis and management of painful DPN, which was also made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from Nevro, Inc.
