Diabetes does not respect boundaries, borders, or walls. Care and management are always required and cannot be paused, regardless of the venue. It is easy to say that diabetes is a 24/7 disease, but what does that mean practically? How does that translate to situations and circumstances that are outside of the traditional health care setting and outside of the typical day-to-day routine? In this Diabetes Spectrum From Research to Practice section, we have curated a selection of articles that review the care and management of diabetes in locations beyond the clinic and outside of the hospital. We focused on diabetes management in the real world, particularly in settings that are health care adjacent but lacking in the policies, procedures, and regulations that dictate traditional care delivery.
