Patrick O'Connor, MD, MPH, is a senior clinical investigator at HealthPartners Research Foundation in Minneapolis, Minn. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications related to diabetes and chronic disease care improvement and is a member of the Committee of Investigators of the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes trial.
Dr. O'Connor currently serves as co-author of the American Diabetes Association's clinical practice guidelines and is also co-author of the clinical guidelines on management of obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prevention of chronic diseases.
His research focuses on 1) using informatics to provide clinical decision support at the point of care, 2) using learning theory to develop simulated provider learning interventions to improve chronic disease care, and 3) comparative effectiveness research. His work has been supported by grants and contracts from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institute on Aging, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, among others.
Dr. O'Conner serves on several journal editorial boards and on the Minnesota Department of Health's Diabetes Steering Committee. He does not accept any grants, honoraria, reimbursements, or other income from drug or device manufacturers.
