Susan Cornell, BS, PharmD, CDE, FAPhA, FAADE, is the associate director of experiential education and an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy in Downers Grove, Ill.
With more than 25 years of experience in community and ambulatory care practice, Dr. Cornell has practiced as a clinical pharmacist, certified diabetes educator, and preceptor and was the inaugural coordinator of the American Diabetes Association (ADA)-recognized Dominick’s Pharmacy diabetes self-management education program. Her current clinical practice is with Bolingbrook Christian Health in Bolingbrook, Ill., and the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic in Joliet, Ill., where she trains, educates, and supervises students from the Midwestern University colleges of medicine, pharmacy, and health sciences as they provide diabetes education classes, as well as individual diabetes care and medication therapy management, for patients in numerous underserved community clinics.
Dr. Cornell is an active member of ADA and the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), for which she served on the board of directors from 2004 to 2007. She has been a volunteer for more than 15 years for the ADA Expo—Chicago and several ADA summer camps in the Chicago suburbs. She has been an invited presenter for various health care professional and community groups, including presentations at the ADA Scientific Sessions and the AADE annual meetings.
