Lance A. Sloan, MD, MSE, FACE, FASN, FACP, FEAA, FASPC, is president of the Texas Institute for Kidney and Endocrine Disorders, Department of Clinical Metabolism, in Lufkin, TX, and a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine of Sam Houston State University in Conroe, TX. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He then completed clinical fellowships in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism and in nephrology at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is board certified in internal medicine; endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism; and nephrology.

Dr. Sloan is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Nephrology, the Endocrine Alliance Academy, the American College of Endocrinology, and the American Society of Preventive Cardiology and is also a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the Cardio Renal Society, the National Kidney Foundation, the American Society of Nephrology, and the Renal Physicians Association (RPA). He currently serves or has served in the past on several committees for RPA, AACE, the Texas Diabetes Council, and the Texas Medical Association. He served for multiple years as president of the Texas Endocrine Association and the Angelina County Medical Society.

His research interests include diabetes, visceral insulin resistance adiposity syndrome, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, obesity, atherosclerosis, congestive heart failure, inflammation, and lipid metabolism. He has served as the principal investigator for several dozen trials for which his work has been published in relevant research journals. He is a member of the editorial board of Endocrine Practice, Clinical Diabetes, and Nephrology News & Issues and is a reviewer for several other journals.
